Starting in 2025, Family Portal can be enabled with a Core tier or an Advanced tier.

Please note that if you wish to enable Family Portal Advanced, you need to enable Core for your organization as well.

Before you go into our knowledge articles as an agency, as a portal user, or if you are looking to learn about managing payment via Family Portal, make sure you know which service tier your organization has with Family Portal. Your ability to perform certain tasks within Family Portal will be dependent on your service tier.

Key Features of Family Portal

  • Active Participation: Clients can actively engage in their care by viewing scheduled visits, requesting changes, writing caregiver reviews, and accessing medication and vital sign information.
  • Real-Time Updates: Families receive real-time updates on any device, reducing the need for caregivers to make update calls.
  • Empowerment: The portal empowers clients and families to take control of their care plans, offering greater peace of mind.
  • Security: It is HIPAA compliant, ensuring complete security and privacy for client information.
  • Secure Messagingan additional premium feature that offers secure communication between employees and Family Portal users.
  • Payment Gatewayan additional premium feature that lets users to pay invoices and store payment methods directly through the portal.

Family Portal Core vs. Family Portal Advanced

Core is available to all organizations but its access is more limited compared to Advanced.

Clients and their contacts using Family Portal Core will be able to:

  • View employee names
  • Access client services, forms, and client and contact information
  • Receive notifications, view schedules, and access some clinical information

In addition to these features, users on Family Portal Advanced will have enhanced access, allowing clients and their contacts to gain a more comprehensive view and take more actions regarding a client’s care. For example, they can:

View employee ratings, skills, and qualifications

  • Request new services
  • Request new visits
  • Request changes or cancellation of visits
  • View invoices, check balances, and make payments
Additional details will be available in we review their individual configuration

Please note that the configuration and client invitation workflows are the same for both.

Permissions (ACLs)

The below permissions, or ACLs (Access Control Lists), which are available via Settings >  Roles and Permissions, dictate the visibility and access to tasks within Family Portal for a core vs. an advanced user. Note that these are the ACLs that will be available for you based on your subscription tier.
