What are Medical System Settings?

Medical System Settings is a feature which allows organizations to customize labels they use within their medication module. The settings are multi-office-sensitive, and organizations can set them at the Headquarter ("HQ") level to flow to lower branch levels.

To access your medical system settings, navigate to Settings>Medication and you will see the below.

What are the rules available for multi-office settings?

By default, setting configurations are inherited from a headquarter (parent) level, unless the lower (child) branch chooses to break this link. All changes from a parent branch will be automatically applied to the lower branches.

Most medical system settings allow configuration of the label’s Enabled/disabled state and the choice of an Organization label. You may also configure your settings to display the label’s Code and  Standard label as read-only. Other additional, frequently-used settings include Units, Medication frequency, and Medication route.

Let's take an in-depth look at the following:

Overriding parent branch settings

An individual child branch will not be able to change its label settings unless a link from the parent branch is broken. The Override action on individual labels allows a branch to make their own changes. Once overrode, the label can be Edited, which allows the Enabled/Disabled toggle and the Organization label text to be modified. Certain settings have unique fields that can also be edited (see below). These changes will be applied to any existing lower children branches that continue to inherit from this branch. At this point, users may also choose to Revert, which restores the link to the parent branch and discards any branch-specific changes that were previously applied.

Enabling/disabling a label

A branch can enable or disable labels, so long as said branch can override HQ settings. A disabled label will not appear in the branch's medication module, unless it is already contained within the client's existing medications.

Changing an Organization label

A branch can configure Organization labels, so long as said branch can override HQ settings. A changed Organization label will appear in the branch's medication module. If a medication within a client’s medication profile contains a previously-used label, the original label will remain and the medication profile will not inherit new changes.

Delivery mode

Like the two functionalities above, configuration is also available under Delivery mode, which are Infusion fluid required, Pre-infusion flush recommended, Pre-infusion flush recommended, Basal rate recommended, and Bolus recommended. These toggle can be modified and then saved. Once a toggle is set to the "ON" position, users can then view the respective fields within said toggle.

Medication frequency

You can modify and save Administration times under Medication frequency. Updated Administration times can then be viewed in the "Add medication form" when that respective frequency is selected.

Medication route

Configuration is also available under Medication route, as the Infusion field can be edited. When a medication is added to a client's profile using this route, the medication will be tagged as an infusion, and information specific to the infusion will be shown when administering the medication.

Units

Configuration under Unit include Ingredient strength, Dosage form, and Dosage/quantity. Users may enable or disable these units when adding a medication to a client’s medication profile.
